2015 was a good year for folk as well and one of the best albums came from Sam Lee. He has a great voice and it is firmly rooted in tradition, but what stands out is the unusual repertoire and the excellent arrangements. Folk is always at its best when tradition can be combined with new perspectives. Click on the headline for video. Sam Lee – Blackbird

25 best albums of 2015: 18. Kacey Musgraves – Pageant Material

Best country album of the year. I heard the first single, ”Biscuits”, and was very disappointed. Silly song, silly lyrics. Silly, silly silly, as Graham Chapman would have said. But it turns out it’s by far the worst song on the album, the rest of it is great. Shows that you can still breathe life in to fairly traditional country. Click on the headline for video. ”Where You At” was the best rap single of the year. It was a great year for Drake, but he was never better than on his guest verse on this song. Also, love Future’s red Fedora. Rest of the album did not reach the same heights, but still a really good album. Click on the headline for video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lw3Or6eqIpI

25 best albums of 2015: 23. Natalie Prass – Natalie Prass

The lovely ”Bird of Prey” was one of the best songs of 2014 and I was looking forward to Prass’ first full album. And I wasn’t disappointed. A classical songwriters album combined with Prass excellent voice. She needs to careful not to fall into the same kind of bland trap like Norah Jones and Rumer, but so far so good.
