Browns, blues and a hint of red in the overcheck on the suit. Caruso suit, Zegna couture shirt, Petronius tie, Calabrese ps and Edward Green shoes. Click on the headline for more pictures.
2015 was a good year for folk as well and one of the best albums came from Sam Lee. He has a great voice and it is firmly rooted in tradition, but what stands out is the unusual repertoire and the excellent arrangements. Folk is always at its best when tradition can be combined with new perspectives. Click on the headline for video. Sam Lee – Blackbird
Best country album of the year. I heard the first single, ”Biscuits”, and was very disappointed. Silly song, silly lyrics. Silly, silly silly, as Graham Chapman would have said. But it turns out it’s by far the worst song on the album, the rest of it is great. Shows that you can still breathe life in to fairly traditional country. Click on the headline for video. Sober ensemble that is slightly broken by the red in the ps. Maybe it makes the ps a little too prominent. Suit and shirt from Brioni, tie from Kiton and Cucinelli ps. Click on the headline for more pictures.
Many have probably already forgotten about this album since it was released early in January. But I remember thinking then that “Mr Noah” could very well be the best single of the year, and it probably was. Up there with Animal Collective at their peak. Click on the headline for video. Panda Bear – Mr Noah
It takes hell of a lot(!) for me to be interested in new garage rock. It’s a genre that usually seems to be pretty exhausted and I prefer to go back to the classics. But then suddenly this Louisville band comes along with one of the funniest and punchiest records I’ve heard in a long time. Play loud! Click on the headline for video. White Reaper – Pill
Sunny Sunday in the botanic garden. Wool tie and pants from from Berg & Berg, vintage tweed jacket from Lanvin, Emma Willis tattersall shirt, ps from Cucinelli, shoes from Alden and sunglasses from Moscot. Click on the headline for more pictures.
”Where You At” was the best rap single of the year. It was a great year for Drake, but he was never better than on his guest verse on this song. Also, love Future’s red Fedora. Rest of the album did not reach the same heights, but still a really good album. Click on the headline for video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lw3Or6eqIpI
New York based producer Saffron released two EPs during 2015, and together they are among the prettiest, smartest and coolest electronic music I’ve heard this year. Not a single note too many. Click on the headline for video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gglb5AYIoxw
The lovely ”Bird of Prey” was one of the best songs of 2014 and I was looking forward to Prass’ first full album. And I wasn’t disappointed. A classical songwriters album combined with Prass excellent voice. She needs to careful not to fall into the same kind of bland trap like Norah Jones and Rumer, but so far so good.
